Director General of Sierra Leone Railways Development and Regulatory Authority
Ing. Dr. Albert Forde
The Sierra Leone Railways Development and Regulatory Authority (SLRDRA) is the national body responsible for developing and regulating railways and cable car transportation in Sierra Leone. Established under the SLRDRA Act, No. 7 of 2025, the Authority is the country’s first dedicated railway institution since the national railway closed in 1974.
Our work spans the full journey from plan to train: setting safety and technical standards, licensing and monitoring operators, preparing Sierra Leone’s first National Railway Masterplan, and bringing priority corridors to investment. Through this work, we aim to reconnect communities, lower the cost of moving goods, unlock the country’s mineral and agricultural potential, and link Sierra Leone to the wider ECOWAS rail network.
