Overview

The Directorate of Railway Operations and Technical Services provides technical leadership across every stage of railway project delivery, from initiation and planning through construction supervision, safety compliance, testing and commissioning, to continuous monitoring. It is responsible for the technical oversight of railway infrastructure projects, signaling systems, and operational standards across the national railway network.

Key Functions

  • Establish project initiation and planning frameworks for all SLRDRA railway projects.
  • Review and enforce compliance with national and international railway standards and technical specifications.
  • Lead the inspection, evaluation, design, and technology selection of signaling systems for existing and new lines.
  • Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for railway operations.
  • Conduct field surveys and data collection to support feasibility studies and engineering design.
  • Supervise railway construction and ensure quality control and contractual compliance.
  • Carry out technical inspections and risk assessments to uphold safety and compliance standards.
  • Oversee the testing and commissioning of signaling and track systems.
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on technical performance to the Director-General.
